A nice change of pace ....


I left St James City at about 10 am and it was already sunny and very hot. I drove down Hwy 41 to stay off the freeways and it was a nice change of pace. As I headed down the Tamiami Highway (AKA: Alligator Alley) and as I made my way toward Holmstead the clouds started to thicken and the wind was up a bit. That was another nice change of pace. I am now in Key Largo at a State Park campground waiting to see what the weather will look like tomorrow. If it is at all fair I will make it to Key West and hopefully it will stay nice enough for a couple of days there.
A backward glance: As I passed through Sarasota I went by the house we lived in for a few years. It had not changed very much except that the screened porch is now walled in and the little palm that was in the planter out front is now a triple palm and over the top of the house. I also went by the grade school and Jr High I went to from the 3rd grade and into the 8th grade. It was fun to walk down (drive through) memory lane.

Full moon...

It was so very nice to be able to walk on the beach under a full moon in November in sandals, shorts and a tank top. The night was so very quiet except for the sound of the surf and somewhere, way off in the distance, Mariachi music was playing. The night was humid so the moon doesn't show in the photo the way it looked in person. But there it is anyway. The return trip was just as beautiful.

Overdue update

 Much has happened this last year.  March 2021: The Nissan service manager was the one who told me that the van was beyond repair (not the mechanic). So I signed over the van to him and rented an SUV to get all my stuff home and started the search for a replacement vehicle. One month later I got a call from the mechanic saying that he had taken the van home and worked on it. He said it was roadworthy again and that I could have it for just what he had put into it IF I wanted it back (parts and labor) if not, he would keep it.  Needless to say, I was shocked and pleasantly surprised. So I grabbed a flight to Sacramento and an Uber to Davis. The mechanic told me the electrical was just a burned-out module caused by a defective fuel injector.  He worked the whole van over and did several other repairs too. I paid him and drove back home. Yuck !

It was a little chilly in the van when I awoke this morning. I could tell that the wind was still whipping around so I looked out the window to find it is raining and snowing. It's sticking in some places but the roads are clear so getting around town is no problem. I would have to go through Flagstaff to get to Casa Grande but they say it is worse there so I will hunker down here for another night. They are predicting a low of 22 tonight here in Gallup, Brrrrrr, so I will see what it's like tomorrow after lunch as they say the roads will be clear by then and the front will have moved through. It's quite a difference from the 88 degrees that I enjoyed just a couple of days ago in Carlsbad. That's traveling for you!
